The other day, I was talking to my new friend Shayne Boyer (Windows Phone developer and motorcycle rider to boot).  See his blog here

As we're starting the conversation, he tells me that he just finished this awesome Windows Phone app.  It's an Amber Alert app for Windows Phone 7.  The app checks the 51 RSS feeds that each state uses for Amber Alerts.  The feeds are checked once every 15 minutes while giving you updates and detailed information about the abductee, abductor, and any additional info necessary.

From a development standpoint, here's what made the app:

-A wonderful use of Telerik controls for Windows Phone
-HubTile, JumpList, BusyIndicator, Chart, and ListPicker
-SQL Azure
-Windows Azure
-ASP.NET WebAPI
-Entity Framework Code First

Here are some screen shots of the app, you can expect to see the app in your Marketplace soon!

This shows the most current amber alert:

Here are some statistics:

As I said, the app is coming soon and we will let you know the minute it hits the market!

Update! The dev center at Microsoft has been apparently severely backed up with submissions and updates throughout the month of August.  There have been multiple rants on twitter and dev.windowsphone.com concerning the delays of approvals of apps being submitted.

Nevertheless, Find Amber is also in this same holding pattern and I have ever bit of confidence that the application will be approved here within the next week.

Upon approval there will be an additional article posted discussing how I built Find Amber, the component used, technology etc. Stay tuned....

The app has been approved! It can take a day or so for it to show in the Windows Phone store and available for download. Once it is available I will be sending out tweets and notifications to many connected people.  If you have any questions please contact me on twitter @spboyer.

Thank you.
